How to clean your stainless steel pots without using chemicals

Classic detergents can be easily replaced by this popular mixture: soda bicarbonate and vinegar. It is a real “bio weapon” against grease. It dissolves even hardened grease without leaving scratches, if using the right sponge.

The best way to use baking soda and vinegar is to spread it all over the pot that needs to be cleaned, leaving a relatively thick coating. After 10 minutes or so, or as much as necessary, don’t just rinse it. This is when you take an abrasive, but gentle dish-washing sponge, and start rubbing in circles.

Besides baking soda and vinegar, you can also use chalk powder and homemade soap. Mix the two ingredients until you get a homogeneous paste. Clean your stainless steel objects with this and rinse with warm to hot water.

After cleaning them, to make them shiny, you can use a small amount of olive oil.

Lemon juice is also a powerful anti-greaser. And you can use mouthwash to rinse stainless steel objects, at the same time, this way also disinfecting them.

Hot vinegar with ground sea salt is just as efficient for cleaning grease.

Why make your own cleaning products?

Mixing together natural ingredients is always better for your health and the surrounding environment than hard chemicals which give you headaches. Plus, it is cheaper than the cleaning products you find at the store.

An efficient recipe for natural dish-washing detergent, which you can use on any kitchenware, regardless of the material they’re made from, whether stainless steel or not, goes like this:

  • 400ml of water
  • 200 gr of salt
  • 3 large lemons
  • 100ml of vinegar (whether it’s wine or apple vinegar)
