How to Properly Clean Your Laptop

An increasing number of people give up desktop computers and choose laptops, for their own comfort. They are easy to keep in the best working condition, if they are meticulously cleaned at least every 6 months. Here’s how to do it yourself:

  1. First, you need to stop the laptop completely. Remove the power cord and any USB from it. It would also be advisable to remove the battery from the back of the laptop, to reduce the risk of short circuits.
  2. To clean the keyboard, use a spray with compressed air to remove dust and debris that can be beneath and between the keys. Then you need a little antistatic dust brush to wipe the last traces of dirt.
  3. If your laptop still looks pretty dirty, use a cotton cloth with a little cleaner. Careful! It does not have to be soaked with liquid, but only slightly damp.
  4. For the display use a cleaning fluid for LCD monitors or make your own solution. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and distilled water and you’re ready to make your laptop as new. Do not apply the solution directly on the screen, but slightly moisten a soft cloth and use it on the monitor.
  5. Turn the laptop upside down and look for the vents on the sides. See if you can, pry the panel close to them, to reach the fan and clean it. It is possible, however, to have no direct access to it and so you’ll have to take your laptop to a specialist. If you made it to the fan, use compressed air to remove dust from this component. Use only short air jets, because the components inside the laptop are very fragile.
  6. Cleaning USB ports. Use a cotton cloth (or cotton swabs), without cleaning solution, this time. Thereafter, finish with the compressed air spray.

Attention! Never use cleaners containing ammonia and paper towels, and never apply the cleaner directly on the device.
