You don’t have to panic if you stained your favorite shirt. There is a remedy for almost any stain out there. You just have to use the right method, or the shirt is ruined forever.
Here’s how to remove 15 most frequent stains:
- Grass – use an old toothbrush and diluted white vinegar or ammonia. just be careful with the rubbing and the dosage. Afterwards, wash using conditioner.
- Red white – salt or soak in enzyme detergent over night. If not at home and able to immediately wash it, use club soda.
- Chocolate – liquid dishwasher and water, ammonia, white vinegar (for colors) or hydrogen peroxide (for whites).
- Chewing gum – freeze and break.
- Glue – If it’s glue used at school, dish washing liquid and water. If its industrial, hard glue, you might want to make a trip to the cleaners. That does not come off easily.
- Crayons – Spray with lubricant and leave face down on paper towels, then wash. Liquid dish-washing soap and warm water can be used as well.
- Fruit juice – soak in cold water for at least 30 minutes. Apply one part white vinegar and two parts water and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
- Coffee – Coffee easily comes out if you soak the affected clothing item in warm water and baking soda, or if you just wash it immediately using any kind of detergent and warm water.
- Mud – Simply soak in warm water and laundry detergent and wash as usual
- Grease or oil – Oil solvents, baking soda, cornstarch, dish washing detergent
- Ink – soak in milk over night and wash
- Blood – cold water soak, gently rubbing with fingers. Hydrogen peroxide can be used on whites if the stain is stubborn.
- Perspiration – Hot water and enzyme detergent, plus diluted vinegar.
- Ketchup – right away cold water rinse.
- Makeup – soak in enzyme detergent and wash.
