Cleaning kids toys is a delicate task because you cannot use chemicals. The little ones tend to put everything in their mouth, therefore mommy must use a non-toxic cleaner. And even more important, the toys must be disinfected as often as possible due to the same reason.
How to clean your kids’ toys, and at the same time making sure that it is safe for them?
You can try these natural tips that will help you deal with this situation:
Vinegar and baking soda are your friends when it comes to non-toxic, natural cleaning.
You can also use them in the washing machine to clean stuffed toys. Sprinkle them with baking soda and add 3 caps of white vinegar in the washing cycle. To make you sure you do not damage the toys, you can place them in a pillow case before putting them into the washing machine.
For disinfecting, you can add few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils, which are naturally antibacterial, anti fungal and antimicrobial, and they also smell delightful.
You can also buy a steam cleaner, which is great for killing germs, the secret to disinfecting being heat, most of the times.
You can even disinfect by putting the stuffed toys in the freezer for 24 hours.
And there are also disinfecting bags in which you can place small toys and microwave the germs away. These kind of bags are available at specialty stores or online.
You can also put together a lemon and vinegar solution, which you can bottle up in an empty spray bottle and use it when needed to wipe the toys.
You can use lemon juice, lemon peel, lemon essential oil or lemon slices which you can place inside the spray bottle and then pour distilled water and white vinegar until you fill it.
For wooden toys, after wiping them with the solutions reminded above, make sure you use a little olive oil to rub it all over. Otherwise you may harm the wood and make the toy look worn out.
