Do you have many mirrors around the house? If the answer is ‘yes’, make sure you give them the brightness they need, so that when you use them you have a clear picture. For this, you should know a few tricks that can really help you to clean the mirrors fast and easy.
- You must wipe the dust from the mirror from top to bottom and from left to right. Take an old newspaper, roll it as a buffer, soak it with methylated spirits and clean the mirror.
- Another solution is to imbibe the newspaper with a solution of two parts water and one part vinegar. Then wipe with a pad of newspaper until it dries.
- You can also use half a raw potato. Then, rinse with water in which you put a few drops of alcohol.
- You can also try cleaning the mirror with a piece of tissue paper on which you put a few drops of ammonia.
- If the mirror is covered with a film or if you want to avoid fogging, wipe it with a cloth on which you put a few drops of glycerin.
- A very dirty mirror can be cleaned with a paste made from 1/3 floated chalk (chalk crushed very well, purified by washing with plain water and then boiled), 1/3 water and 1/3 technical alcohol. Apply this paste on the a dry cloth and gently rub the mirror.
- Also for very dirty mirrors you can try a mixture of denatured alcohol, white vinegar and water (one glass of alcohol and vinegar for a bucket of water).
- A handful of lime leaves, cooled in the refrigerator in advance, can be a good solution for cleaning. Remember when lime trees are budding!
- Grease stains from dirty fingers can be cleaned with water and ammonia.
- You can also try using vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda. Any of these products can be mixed with water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and use it for the routine cleaning of the mirror. A more concentrated solution removes the toughest stains formed on the mirror.
How to restore an old mirror, with spots on it
If you have an old mirror with black spots, here’s how you can make it as new. Rub the problem areas from the silvered part of the mirror with a piece of sandpaper (put your gloves on). Wipe with a soft cloth, then apply to these areas with a brush, silvered paint special for mirrors or special silver powder. The products can be found in any DIY store.
