How to Treat Blood Blisters at Home

Blisters occur when you wear tight uncomfortable shoes. The friction between footwear and skin makes the area swell. The process is gradually; first layer of skin gets red and then leaves exposed the dermis layer, a deeply skin layer.

That is how the fluid accumulates and forms the blister. A blood blister is filled with blood and can occur when a blood vessels gets damaged.

Blood blisters are painful and can have different sizes. You should pay attention to them because if they are not treated properly can cause infections. If you don’t want to go see a doctor you may try one of the following remedies:

Sandalwood. To get rid of the painful blood blisters use sandalwood paste. Sandalwood paste is prepared from organic sandalwood powder. Mix half a teaspoon of this powder with one tablespoon of rose water until you get a thick paste. Apply it on the blood blister. Wait for 15-20 minutes, until it gets into skin and then rinse with warm water. Repeat this procedure 3-4 times a day. Due to its properties it cools the skin and reduce the inflammation thereby hastening the healing process.

Ice Pack. To reduce the swelling and the pain place an ice pack on the blister. Take 5-10 ice cubes and place it inside a towel. Tie its ends together and apply the ice pack on the painful area. Hold it for 3-5 minutes and then repeat again.

Cucumber. Well known for its skin benefits, cucumber works its wonders on blood blisters too. The cucumber contains a large amount of ascorbic and caffeic acid, which is responsible for reducing inflammation. Using this treatment you will help you skin to heal faster. Simply cut the cucumber into roundels and apply the slices on the blisters. Wait 15 minutes. Repeat this treatment until the blood blisters disappear.

Aloe Vera Gel is a panacea for the skin, well known for its soothing, restorative, healing and moisturizing properties. Squeeze the juice of one aloe-vera leaf and mix it in an equal quantity with vitamin E. Apply this mixture directly on the blister. Wait for at least 15 minutes until the mixture penetrates the skin. You can wipe off the excess with a tissue. Again, this treatment takes a few days until the blood blister disappears.
