How to Treat Rosacea at Home

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease characterized by reddened skin in certain areas of the face, small pustules, red nose, cheeks, forehead and chin, visible blood vessels on the nose and cheeks and a tendency of blushing.

Although not so discussed as other skin problems, rosacea affects about 10% of the population.

Women seem to be more affected than men. In general, any person aged 20-70 years may be affected, likely being adults aged 30-50 years with sensitive skin and light colored. Here are some natural remedies to treat this skin affection, at home:

Chamomile Compress. Wash your face with chamomile tea. Alternatively you can use a cotton towel soaked in cold chamomile tea. To prepare Chamomile tea is necessary to boil some dried flowers of this plant in 3 cups water for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and use this solution.

Aloe Vera Gel. Mix 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel, honey and 1 tablespoon of ground liquorice. Apply this mixture on the affected portion of the skin, leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse with clean water.

Other herbal remedies, effective for controlling rosacea are the creams based on green tea and tea tree oil, applied externally, with apple cider vinegar which will be administered internally.

Apply to the face a paste of turmeric. After drying the pulp massage your face gently, and then rinse with cool water. Follow this remedy every day. For better results mix 1 tablespoon of oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Apply the resulting paste on the area of affected skin.

As a diet advice, eat more foods rich in vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C and zinc. These foods have the ability to hasten the healing process and to strengthen capillaries and the immune system. Consume flaxseed oil and fish oils, as these products are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Also avoid strenuous physical exercise, prolonged sun exposure, emotional stress and anxiety.
